Pulmonary Medicine
What is Arterial Blood Gas (ABG)?
A diagnostic procedure requested by a physician to determine the oxygenation status, adequacy of ventilation and acid-base status of the patient.
What is Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)?
This diagnostic procedure is done to measure the lung volumes and capacities, flow rates, ventilatory capacities and the diffusion of gases. It is also used to determine if the patient has restrictive or obstructive lung disease. This is usually requested during executive checkup, cardio-pulmonary clearance prior to OR, and evaluation of patients with shortness of breathe.
