    The inauguration of the NKTI-Baxter Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) Center of Excellence was held last February 23, 2021 at the NKTI. The center is a two-storey warehouse for PD dialysis solutions and accessories. Facilities include areas for patient training and clinical management as well as a queuing system to make the process of claiming these lifesaving fluids more efficient for PD patients.

Meckel's Diverticulum Scintigraphy

Indication:

  • To diagnose presence of ectopic gastric mucosa in Meckel's Diverticulum Scintigraphy

Patient Preparations:

  • Written request from the physician is needed. An appointment schedule is made personally or through the phone.

  • 2 hr fasting prior to procedure to reduced size of stomach

  • No treatment with perchlorate, but it may be given after completion of the study.

  • No barium studies should be performed within 3-4 days of scintigraphy

When to Arrive:

  • You should arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. This allows time for you to complete any necessary paper work, change your clothes for your scan and answer questions from our technologist about your medical history before we start your scan.

Clothing/Metallic Objects:

  • For all Nuclear Medicine procedures, you most likely will change into a hospital gown. Our changing area is private and there is a secure locker for your clothes. It is best, however, if you leave valuable items at home. If you are wearing anything metallic, such as jewelry, glasses, dentures etc. that might interfere with the Nuclear Scan

Examination Time:

  • 1 hour

Technique of Administration:

  • Intravenous injection

Patient Position:

  • Your technologist will then bring you into the Dual-Head Gamma Camera room where you will lie down supine on the machine table .The technologist position the entire abdomen to be scanned. The detector heads does not touch you, nor do you feel anything during imaging.

Points of Emphasis:

  • The radioisotope, although radioactive, is harmless and emits less radiation than the standard x-ray.

  • Hydrate patient with 3-4 glasses of water after the injection of isotope to increase circulation.

  • Notify doctor/ Technologists if pregnant
